Hand Luggage And Under-Seat Bags
Your Hand Luggage is a crucial factor in ensuring an effortless flying experience.
Be sure you're all set and ready to board by fully understanding Jet2's Cabin Baggage policy.
That includes familiarising yourself with the terminology, which items you can take onboard for free and what you may need to pay for.
Here's everything you need to know when flying with Jet2.
Jet2 Cabin Baggage - Explained
Jet2 defines their cabin baggage as: Hand Luggage.
This refers to Jet2's Large Hand Luggage Bags and Small, Under-Seat Bags.
This luggage can be taken onto the plane with you, accessed whilst awaiting departure and on the flight itself. Hand Luggage is to be securely stored onboard, beneath the seat in front or using the overhead lockers.
Any Hand Luggage you intend to take must pass through the airport security scanning process before you proceed to fly with Jet2.
Cabin Baggage Allowance
Jet2's maximum Hand Luggage Allowance is two distinct types of bag, both adhering to specific size restrictions and storage requirements:
- x1 - Small, Under-Seat Bag (free of charge)
- x1 - Hand Luggage Bag (Larger Carry-on Bag - free of charge)

Jet2 does not allow passengers to take two bags of the same Hand Luggage category on board - it is strictly one of each of the above.
Cabin Baggage Allowance - By Fare
Jet2’s Hand Luggage Allowance is consistent for all passengers (Economy).
- Jet2 Economy - x1 Small, Under-Seat Bag + x1 Large, Hand Luggage Bag
While Jet2 offers optional services to pre-book seating and secure extra legroom, its fares are all within one cabin class.
| Jet2 Fare Type | Small, Under-Seat Bag | Large, Hand Luggage Bag |

Jet2 | Small, Under-Seat Bags - Explained
What Is An Under-Seat Bag?
Jet2's version of a small carry-on offering is referred to as an ‘Under-Seat Bag’. It is the most basic level of Cabin Baggage Allowance, available and free to every passenger.
An Under-Seat Bag is useful for having access to documents and important essentials through security, departure and during the flight.
Perfect for short breaks, light travel and flying on a budget.
What Are The Size Dimensions Of Jet2's Under-Seat Bag?
Jet2's Under-Seat Bag maximum size dimensions are:
40 x 30 x 20 cm.
The bag's frame may affect how it fits, however it must remain within these measurements to meet Jet2's approval and can be placed underneath the seat in front of you.

Under-Seat Bag Weight Allowance
Jet2's Small, Under-Seat Bags do not have an official weight limit - but usually airlines state equivalent bags must not exceed 10kg. The main criterion is that it fits comfortably under the seat in front.
Although it is not routinely weighed, your Under-Seat Bag could be tested for weight if it stands out as looking too heavy or bulky.
Can I Bring More Than One Under-Seat Bag?
No, a maximum of One Under-Seat Bag per passenger is allowed onboard Jet2 flights.
Will I Be Charged For Bringing An Under-Seat Bag?
No, all passengers are entitled to take One Under-Seat Bag with them, without charge. This is included with every Jet2 booking.
You will not be charged as long as your Under-Seat Bag meets the outlined size dimensions: 40 x 30 x 20 cm.
Where Will My Under-Seat Bag Be Stored?
On a Jet2 flight, your Under-Seat Bag will need to fit securely and be placed beneath the seat directly in front of you.

What Is An Example Of An Under-Seat Bag?
Provided it is within the maximum size dimensions of 40 x 30 x 20 cm:
Some miniature suitcases, travel-friendly weekend bags, purses, handbags, rucksacks, laptop bags and briefcases are appropriate luggage examples, which can be brought as an Under-Seat Bag for Jet2 flights.

What Can I Put In An Under-Seat Bag?
- Essential clothing for a short trip.
- A jacket or an additional layer.
- Toiletries and cosmetics.
- Your laptop or tablet for work or entertainment
- Personal belongings and accessories.
- Travel documents.
- Snacks.
Jet2 | Large, Hand Luggage Bags - Explained
What Is A Hand Luggage Bag?
Jet2's version of a large cabin bag is referred to as a ‘Hand Luggage Bag’. It is their overhead Cabin Baggage Allowance, included free of charge for all passengers.
Hand Luggage Bags can be taken through airport security and carried onboard. Useful for longer trips and access to your personal belongings, travel documents and in-flight essentials.
Who Can Bring A Hand Luggage Bag?
All Jet2 passengers are entitled to bring on board a Hand Luggage Bag, as included with their fare.
The one exception to this, as stated by Jet2:
If you are travelling with an infant, their hand baggage forms part of the adult’s hand baggage allowance.
Who Can’t Bring A Hand Luggage Bag?
Other than infants, all Jet2 passengers are entitled to bring on board a Hand Luggage Bag, providing it meets the size and weight restrictions.
How Much Does a Hand Luggage Bag Cost?
For all Jet2 passengers (except for infants), a Hand Luggage Bag is included free of charge with the standard air fare.
How Many Hand Luggage Bags Am I Allowed?
A limit of One Large Hand Luggage Bag per passenger is allowed onboard Jet2 flights for all passengers, except for infants.
What Size Is A Jet2 Hand Luggage Bag?
Jet2's Large Hand Luggage Bag maximum size dimensions are:
56 x 45 x 25 cm (typically height x width x depth)
These dimensions include the Hand Luggage Bag’s handles and wheels.

What is The Weight Limit for a Large Hand Luggage Bag?
Jet2's Large Hand Luggage Bag maximum weight limit is 10kg.

Can I Bring a Small, Under-Seat Bag and Large, Hand Luggage Bag?
Yes, you can bring onboard both One Small, Under-Seat Bag and One Large, Hand Luggage Bag provided:
- They are within the specified size dimensions.
- The Hand Luggage Bag is within the specified weight limit.
- You are not asked to put the Hand Luggage into the hold - due to a busy flight or other circumstances.
- You are not an infant.
Will I Be Charged For Taking A Large Hand Luggage Bag?
You will not be charged by Jet2 for taking a Large Hand Luggage Bag - providing it meets the size and weight limits and you are not an infant.
Where Can I Store A Large Hand Luggage Bag?
Jet2's Large Hand Luggage Bags are to be stored in the overhead compartments for the duration of your flight, except for accessing belongings, when the seat belt signals are released.

What Is An Example Of A Jet2 Large, Hand Luggage Bag?
Provided it is within the specified size of 56 x 45 x 25 cm (including the bag handles and wheels), a travel case, small suitcase, compact travel bag or large rucksack are appropriate luggage examples which can be used for a Large Hand Luggage Bag on Jet2 flights.
Important Note
Jet2 states that all Hand Luggage is carried in the cabin at its discretion, and it reserves the right to check it into the aircraft hold for operational or capacity reasons.
While uncommon, to reduce the chance of being asked to check your Hand Luggage into the hold, Jet2 offers Guaranteed Cabin Luggage for an extra charge, subject to availability.
Travelling With Infants On A Jet2 Flight
Jet2's Cabin Baggage policy is relatively straightforward and more generous than many airlines due to the nature of trips they provide.
Each passenger gets a 10kg Hand Luggage bag included as standard, plus a Small Under-Seat bag.
The one exception is for infants. Here is what you need to know:
Are infants allowed to fly with Jet2?
Yes. Infants can fly with Jet2, but they must be included on the booking and will typically sit on the lap of a paying adult (Jet2 also mentions additional considerations for very young infants). For the latest guidance, refer to Jet2’s infant FAQs.
What does Jet2 define as an “infant”?
Jet2 defines an infant as a child under 2 years of age on the date of the flight.
Do infants get the same hand luggage allowance?
No. Jet2’s standard 10kg hand luggage allowance is included per passenger excluding infants. In practical terms, plan your onboard packing around the accompanying adult’s Hand Luggage allowance.
Note on the small under-seat bag:
Jet2 clearly excludes infants from the 10kg hand luggage allowance, but does not explicitly state a separate under-seat bag entitlement for infants in the same wording. To stay accurate, treat the under-seat bag as part of the accompanying adult’s packing plan unless Jet2 confirm otherwise for your booking.
Do infants get any luggage allowance?
Infants don’t receive a separate baggage allowance in their own right. However, if you’ve added Hold Luggage to your booking, Jet2 state they will automatically add an extra 10kg allowance per infant to the accompanying adult’s hold baggage (free of charge).
What should I keep in my hand luggage when travelling with an infant?
Jet2 recommends carrying key baby essentials in your Hand Luggage, such as baby milk (powdered or liquid), nappies and wipes. Baby milk and food may need to be tasted or tested at airport security.
Can I bring a pushchair, car seat or travel cot?
Yes. Jet2 states you can bring up to two items of equipment per child or infant free of charge (for example a collapsible pushchair/buggy, car seat/booster seat, baby carrier, or travel cot). They also note you can usually keep a collapsible pushchair with you until the plane steps/airbridge (local conditions apply).
How To Avoid Losing Access To Baby Essentials Mid-Flight
Jet2 notes that on busy flights, passengers may be asked to place 10kg hand luggage into the hold. If you want to reduce the risk of losing access to essentials, keep your must-haves in your small under-seat bag and consider Jet2’s Guaranteed Cabin Luggage option (where available).
Additional Items
Jet2 permits a number of specific extra items which can be taken onboard:
- An airport purchase (including duty-free) can be brought onboard as your small under-seat bag, as long as it fits within 40 x 30 x 20 cm.
- Mobility aids such as crutches and walking sticks can be brought onboard (these must be stored appropriately for take-off and landing).
- Medical equipment can be carried onboard in addition to your standard hand luggage allowance (subject to size limits and any required notice/conditions).
Jet2 Cabin Baggage Fees
Jet2 may enforce additional charges if you arrive at the airport or gate with cabin baggage that doesn’t meet their size or weight requirements:
- Oversized / overweight 10kg hand luggage: If your main hand luggage exceeds 56 x 45 x 25 cm (including wheels and handles) or is over 10kg, it will need to be checked into the aircraft hold and an additional charge may apply.
- Oversized small under-seat bag: If your “small item” (handbag/laptop bag/airport purchase) exceeds 40 x 30 x 20 cm, it may be treated as non-compliant and you may be asked to check items into the hold (with possible charges).
Consequences: Jet2 reserves the right to place hand/cabin baggage (including airport purchases) into the aircraft hold where there isn’t enough cabin space or for operational reasons. In those cases, Jet2 states there will be no charge unless your bag exceeds the stated size/weight limits.
Because Jet2’s charges can vary depending on how/when baggage is added to a booking (and the route/airport), it’s best to check your booking options in Manage My Booking before you travel.
How Strict Are Jet2’s Baggage Rules?
A Word On Jet2’s Strictness
Jet2 publishes clear hand luggage size limits, and they also state that carriage of hand/cabin baggage in the cabin is subject to discretion and operational requirements. In practice, that means your bags can be checked, and on busy flights you may be asked to place compliant cabin bags into the hold if space is limited.
How To Measure Your Cabin Baggage
To avoid unexpected fees and disruption to your journey, here are some practical methods to ensure your Small Under-Seat Bag and Large Hand Luggage Bag meet Jet2’s requirements:
Use Jet2’s Self-Service Baggage Gauges
Available at most airports, situated close to the check-in desks or boarding gates. These official size gauges are the most accurate way to verify your Cabin Baggage complies with Jet2’s guidelines.
Individual gauges are available for testing both Small Under-Seat and Large Hand Luggage Bags.
How It Works:
- Place your bag into the relevant gauge slot for either Under-Seat or Hand Luggage Bags.
- If it fits without forcing, your bag is good to go.
- If it doesn't fit, consider rearranging your packing or checking your bag into the hold.
Digital Measurement Applications
For extra precaution, consider verifying your Cabin Baggage dimensions well before you head to the airport by using a smartphone bag measurement app such as:
- Kayak
How To Use:
- Download the application from the Apple Store or Google Play Store.
- Open the application on your device.
- Scroll down and select: “Measure your bag”.
- Read the instruction steps provided.
- Position your bag in a clear, well-lit location and select: “Get Started”.
- Point the camera at your bag from a short distance.
- Press and hold the button to start scanning your bag.
- Ensure you capture the top and sides of the bag.
- Wait for the app to calculate your dimensions.
- Cross-reference your bag size with the Jet2 dimensions.
Note: While these apps can give you a rough estimate, they aren’t as precise as physical measurements or Jet2's official baggage gauge. Use them as an indicator, not a definitive answer.
Taking Liquids Onboard
You can bring liquids, gels and aerosols in your Cabin Baggage. But there are specific restrictions on container volume and how these items must be presented when going through airport security. Here's what you should be aware of:
What is Defined as a 'Liquid'?
Liquids include a wide range of items, such as:
- All drinks, including water.
- Liquid or semi-liquid foods, like soup, jam, honey, and syrups.
- Cosmetics and toiletries, such as creams, lotions, oils, perfumes, mascara, and lip gloss.
- Sprays, including shaving foam, hairspray, and spray deodorants.
- Pastes, such as toothpaste.
- Gels, including hair and shower gel.
- Contact lens solution.
- Other items with a similar liquid or semi-liquid consistency.
What Size Container Do My Liquids Need To Be In?
Each individual liquid container must hold 100ml or less.
Larger containers, even if partially filled, are not permitted through security.
How Much Liquid Can I Bring In Total?
All liquids must fit within a single clear, resealable plastic bag with a total capacity of no more than 1 litre, using individual containers of up to 100ml.
How To Pack My Liquids?
- All liquid containers must fit into one clear, resealable plastic bag (up to 1 litre in capacity).
- The bag must be easily sealed and presented separately during security checks.
- Passengers are limited to one liquid bag per person.
Can I Purchase Liquids In The Departure Lounge?
Yes. Liquids can be purchased after passing through security, and these items are typically permitted onboard. Keep any liquids sealed and retain proof of purchase, especially if you have onward connections.
Are Any Liquid Containers Allowed To Be More Than 100ml?
Certain liquids over 100ml may be allowed through security under specific conditions, such as:
- Essential medical purposes.
- Special dietary requirements.
- Baby food or baby milk.
By following these guidelines, you can ensure a smooth and hassle-free security check experience.
Restricted Items
If you’re unsure whether a particular item is allowed onboard, Jet2 outlines dangerous goods and prohibited articles in their official guidance. For the most accurate, item-by-item rules, always check:
- Jet2 dangerous goods restrictions (batteries, power banks, hoverboards, etc.)
- Jet2 Dangerous Goods Poster (quick reference)
- UK CAA baggage safety advice (general rules)
Batteries, Power Banks and Battery Powered Devices
Battery rules are the most common reason items get refused at the airport. Jet2’s guidance highlights that:
- Power banks are treated as spare batteries and must be carried in cabin baggage (not checked in).
- Power banks or batteries that do not clearly state their watt-hour rating (or lithium content), or where it cannot be confirmed, are not permitted.
- Hoverboards and similar small vehicles powered by lithium batteries are forbidden in passenger luggage (cabin or hold).
E-cigarettes and Vapes
Jet2’s guidance and UK rules generally require e-cigarettes/vapes (and spare batteries) to be carried in the cabin, and they must be protected against accidental activation. Use/charging onboard is not permitted.
Medical Items, Needles and Syringes
If your medical condition requires syringes, needles, insulin pens, EpiPens or related medication in the aircraft cabin, Jet2holidays advise carrying a letter from your doctor. You should declare these items at check-in and security, and inform cabin crew when boarding where appropriate.
Portable Oxygen Concentrators and Oxygen
Jet2holidays advise that only some portable oxygen concentrators are cleared for use onboard and that medical clearance is required if you need to travel with oxygen. If this applies to you, arrange it in advance.
Prohibited Items (Security Restricted Areas and the Aircraft Cabin)
Jet2’s guidance follows standard airport security restrictions for items that could be used to cause harm, including certain weapons, sharp objects, tools and similar items. If you’re carrying anything borderline, check the official Jet2 guidance before travel and follow local airport security instructions.
Special Baggage - Musical Instruments & Sports Equipment
Need to Bring a Musical Instrument on Jet2?
If you're planning to travel with a flute, clarinet, or any other valuable instrument, Jet2 provides a few practical options depending on the size and weight.
- Option 1: Carry it onboard as your 10kg hand luggage
If your instrument is within Jet2’s hand luggage limits (max 56 x 45 x 25 cm and under 10kg), it may be carried onboard as your one piece of 10kg hand luggage (so it replaces your main cabin bag, it is not an extra item).
- Option 2: Check it into the hold
If you’d rather not take it into the cabin, Jet2 states you can check a musical instrument into the hold for a £30 charge (with a 22kg weight allowance per item). Make sure it’s properly protected and you have suitable travel insurance.
- Option 3: Book a dedicated seat for a large instrument
For larger instruments (such as a guitar or cello), Jet2 states these may be carried in the cabin on a dedicated paid seat. For safety, a non-emergency exit window seat is allocated, the item must be securely restrained, weigh no more than 65kg, and must not extend above the top of the seat by more than 30cm.
Transporting Equipment for Sporting Activity
Jet2 is happy to carry sports equipment and other outsize items, provided there’s space available on the aircraft. These items should be pre-booked (either during booking or by contacting Jet2), because they may not accept them if they haven’t been arranged in advance.
There’s a large list of item-specific rules (including packing instructions and weight limits) on Jet2’s official page, so if you’re bringing anything unusual, it’s best to check the table for your exact item:
Jet2 Sports Equipment and other Outsize Items (official rules)
A few examples Jet2 call out in their rules include:
- Bicycles: permitted up to 32kg (with specific packing requirements).
- Golf equipment: listed with a 22kg allowance.
- Skis / snowboards / water ski equipment: listed with a 22kg allowance (sharp edges should be padded).
- Surfboards: permitted, with a maximum length of 300 cm (packing requirements apply).
Jet2holidays note: If you’re booking a package holiday, Jet2holidays states you can add bikes and golf bags online for an extra charge (and that transfers may cost more). For other sports equipment, they ask you to contact their Pre-Travel Services team.
Jet2holidays - Sports equipment FAQs
Also worth knowing: Jet2 states “comfort devices” (seat extenders, baby hammocks, inflatable mattresses/footstools, and similar attachments) are not allowed onboard.

Traveller Tip (Stay Within Your Allowance)
Jet2’s cabin baggage allowance is more generous than many airlines, as it includes both:
- One 10kg hand luggage bag (up to 56 x 45 x 25 cm)
- One small under-seat bag (up to 40 x 30 x 20 cm)
However, if you intend on purchasing duty free items at the airport, then Jet2 states that this shopping bag is classed as the small under-seat bag (not an extra third item).
Therefore bringing an additional accessory bag item (like the London Sling Bag) could technically incur excess fees.
However, here are a few strategic ideas to avoid detection:
Conceal the Sling Bag
The London Sling Bag is slim in profile and can discreetly sit under a hoodie or layer. When worn this way, it’s often unnoticed by airline staff.
Place within a duty-free carrier bag when boarding.
To comply with Jet2’s Two Bag allowance, temporarily place the London Sling Bag within a duty-free shopping bag from a departure lounge store and bring it onboard as if it were a purchase.
This option allows you to purchase any goods or essentials at the airport, without disrupting your standard cabin baggage allowance or packing organisation. Whilst ensuring you do not attract attention by carrying three bags onto the plane.
Disclaimer: These tips are suggested for informational purposes only. Always double-check the latest airline policies, as attempting to bypass guidelines may carry risks, including fees.
Jet2 2026
Checked-in Baggage
Travelling with family, a group, or planning a longer getaway? Understanding Jet2’s checked-in baggage rules in advance helps you pack efficiently and avoid last-minute fees at the airport.
Jet2 Checked-In Baggage – Explained
Jet2 refers to checked-in luggage as Hold Baggage.
This includes items you hand over at the airline’s bag-drop desk before you go through security. Your baggage remains inaccessible during the flight, and you collect it from the baggage carousel on arrival.
Important: Jet2’s Hold Baggage rules can differ depending on whether you’re travelling as part of a Jet2holidays package or flying with Jet2 only. We cover both below so you know exactly what applies to your booking.
Checked-in Baggage - Allowance
On Jet2.com flights, you can add up to a maximum of three hold bags of 22kg per person, per flight (excluding infants).
Jet2 baggage charges vary depending on destination and when/how you add bags (during booking, via Manage My Booking, via the Call Centre, or at the airport).
- Up to three 22kg hold bags can be added per passenger, per flight (excluding infants).
- No single hold bag can weigh more than 32kg.
- If travelling with an infant and you already have hold luggage on your booking, Jet2 state they will automatically add an extra 10kg allowance per infant at check-in (free of charge).
To avoid any confusion, plan your packing early and add hold baggage before arriving at the airport, as last-minute additions are typically more expensive.
Jet2holidays note: On many Jet2holidays bookings, each person gets 22kg hold baggage included as standard (excluding infants), and you can usually add more if needed.

Checked-In Baggage Weight Allowance
Jet2’s standard hold bag weight allowance is:
- 22kg per hold bag
- Up to three hold bags per passenger, per flight (excluding infants)
- 32kg maximum for any single bag or item
If your baggage exceeds your total weight allowance, Jet2 state it may be carried subject to availability and discretion, and you will need to pay an excess baggage fee.

Do Jet2 Offer Pooling Weight Allowance?
Jet2 state that you can combine your luggage allowance into one bag, but that single bag must not weigh more than 32kg.
In practice, this means families often pack into fewer suitcases, as long as you stay within the 32kg maximum per bag and you have the correct allowance on the booking.
Checked-in Baggage Costs
Jet2’s hold baggage prices vary by destination and when you add the bag (booking online tends to be cheaper than adding it later). The clearest way to confirm the exact price is during booking or in Manage My Booking.
General Rules
- You can add up to three 22kg hold bags per person, per flight (excluding infants).
- No single bag can weigh more than 32kg.
- Excess baggage fee: Jet2 state this is £12 per kg over your total allowance.
- If you add an additional item at the airport on the day of departure, Jet2 state you will pay £45 per item, plus any applicable excess baggage fees.
Each amount is typically charged per flight, per passenger and per bag/item.
Size Restrictions for Checked-In Baggage
Unlike some low-cost airlines, Jet2 does not publish a fixed maximum suitcase size (length/width/height) for standard 22kg hold baggage. Instead, their rules focus on weight and practicality of handling.
What Jet2 do care about:
- Per-bag allowance: Standard hold bags are typically booked in 22kg increments (up to three per person, per flight, excluding infants).
- Maximum per item: Jet2 does not allow any single bag/item to weigh more than 32kg.
- Excess weight: If your baggage exceeds your total allowance, Jet2 state excess charges apply (and carriage is subject to availability and discretion).
What this means in practice: a “normal-sized” suitcase is generally fine, but very large or awkward items may be treated as outsize baggage and can require pre-booking, specific packing, and space availability.
If you’re travelling with something unusually large (for example bikes, golf bags, skis, surfboards or other outsize equipment), Jet2 provides an item-by-item table with packing rules and restrictions here.
