Hand Luggage And Carry-On Bags
Your hand luggage is a crucial factor in ensuring an effortless flying experience.
Be sure you're all set and ready to board by fully understanding Wizz Air’s Cabin Baggage policy.
Including familiarisation with the particular terminology, which items you can take onboard for free and what you may need to pay for.
Time to break down the details.
Wizz Air Cabin Baggage - Explained
Wizz Air defines their hand luggage as: Cabin Baggage.
This luggage can be taken on to the plane with you, accessed whilst awaiting departure and on the flight itself. Cabin Baggage is to be securely stored onboard, beneath the seat in front or using the overhead lockers.
Any Cabin Baggage you intend to take, must go through the airport security scanning process before you proceed to fly with Wizz Air.
Cabin Baggage Allowance
Wizz Air’s maximum Cabin Baggage Allowance (subject to booking status) is Two.
The complete Cabin Baggage Allowance (included with an eligible fare or booking upgrade) must always consist of two distinct types of bag, both adhering to specific size restrictions and storage requirements:
- x1 - Carry-on Bag (free of charge)
- x1 - Trolley Bag (available with Wizz Priority)
Wizz Air does not allow passengers (regardless of Wizz Priority status) to take Two Bags of the same category on board.
Cabin Baggage Allowance - By Fare
Wizz Air’s Cabin Baggage Allowance is determined by your Fare type or Bundle, which is selected through the process of booking your flight.
Wizz Air’s Fares & Bundles provide a variety of luggage options, with some packages including both Cabin and Checked-in Baggage deals. Along with additional services such as priority boarding, priority check-in and seat selection.
Choosing the Fare or Bundle that matches your travel needs is essential. If you plan to bring additional items or want the convenience of an extra Trolley Bag, consider adding Wizz Priority to your booking.
- Basic Fare - x1 Carry-on Bag
- WIZZ GO - x1 Carry-on Bag
The WIZZ GO Bundle also includes: x1 - 20kg Checked-in Bag (But No Trolley Bag).
- WIZZ PLUS - x1 Carry-on Bag + x1 Trolley Bag
The WIZZ PLUS Fare Bundle also includes: x1 - 32kg Checked-in Bag, along with premium seat selection and additional travel benefits.
- WIZZ SMART - x1 Carry-on Bag + x1 Trolley Bag
Wizz Air travellers who have booked either a Basic Fare or WIZZ GO Bundle can choose to upgrade their Cabin Baggage Allowance and include a Trolley Bag by adding Wizz Priority.
This option enables passengers to carry the maximum permitted Cabin Bag Allowance.
Here is a table displaying each WIZZ AIR Fare and the Cabin Baggage Permitted:
Wizz Air Fare Bundle | Carry-On Bag | Trolley Bag |
---|---|---|
Basic Fare | ✓ | ✗ |
WIZZ GO | ✓ | ✗ |

Wizz Air | Carry-on Bags - Explained
What Is A Carry-on Bag?
Wizz Air's version of a small hand luggage offering is referred to as a ‘Carry-on Bag’. It is the most basic level of Cabin Baggage Allowance, free to every passenger.

Perfect for short breaks, light travel and flying on a budget.
What Are The Size Dimensions Of Wizz Air's Carry-on Bag?
Wizz Air's Carry-on Bag maximum size dimensions are:

Carry-on Bag Weight Allowance

Although it is not routinely weighed, your Carry-on Bag could be tested for weight if it stands out as looking too heavy or bulky.

Important Note
The only bag authorised to bring onboard with a Wizz Air Basic Fare or WIZZ GO Bundle is a Carry-on Bag.

Wizz Air | Trolley Bags - Explained
What Is A Trolley Bag?
Wizz Air's version of a large hand luggage bag is referred to as a ‘Trolley Bag’. It is an optional overhead Cabin Baggage Allowance if you need more packing space and flexibility.
A Trolley Bag can be added when booking your flight reservation as part of a WIZZ PLUS or WIZZ SMART package. Alternatively, a Trolley Bag can be added by upgrading to Wizz Priority status via the reservation summary page.
Trolley Bags can be taken through airport security and carried onboard. Useful for longer trips and access to your personal belongings, travel documents and in-flight essentials.
Who Can Bring A Trolley Bag?
- Basic Fare passengers who have upgraded to Wizz Priority.
- WIZZ GO passengers who have upgraded to Wizz Priority.

- WIZZ SMART passengers.
All Wizz Air passengers can secure a Trolley Bag online by upgrading to Wizz Priority.
Who Can’t Bring A Trolley Bag?
Basic Fare and WIZZ GO passengers who have NOT upgraded to Wizz Priority are not permitted to bring a Trolley Bag as part of their Cabin Baggage Allowance.
How Much Does A Trolley Bag Cost?
For Basic Fare and WIZZ GO passengers, a Trolley Bag can be purchased by upgrading to Wizz Priority:
- Online or via Wizz Air’s Call Centre: €0 - €60
- At The Airport: €65
The fee is dependent on the booking time and route.
Passengers with a WIZZ PLUS Bundle, WIZZ SMART Bundle, or Wizz Priority automatically have a Trolley Bag included at no additional cost to the original booking price.
How Many Trolley Bags Am I Allowed?
A limit of One Trolley Bag per passenger is allowed onboard Wizz Air flights for:
- Basic Fare passengers who have upgraded to Wizz Priority.
- WIZZ GO passengers who have upgraded to Wizz Priority.
- All WIZZ PLUS passengers.
- All WIZZ SMART passengers.

55 x 40 x 23 cm (typically height x width x depth)
These dimensions do NOT include the Trolley Bag’s handles or wheels, but they must not exceed 5 cm.
What Is The Weight Limit For A Trolley Bag?
Wizz Air’s Trolley Bag maximum weight limit is 10kg.
Can I Bring A Carry-on & A Trolley Bag?
You can bring onboard both One Carry-on Bag and One Trolley Bag provided:
- You have purchased a Trolley Bag online (by upgrading to Wizz Priority)
- You have booked a WIZZ PLUS Fare.
- You have booked a WIZZ SMART Fare.
Will I Be Charged For Taking A Trolley Bag?
If you have purchased a Trolley Bag online (by upgrading to Wizz Priority), booked a WIZZ PLUS Fare or a WIZZ SMART Fare - you will not be charged for bringing a Trolley Bag.
Providing it meets the size and weight limits. Otherwise, you will be charged at the gate.
Where Can I Store A Trolley Bag?
Wizz Air's Trolley Bags are to be stored above your seat, in an overhead locker for the duration of your flight, except for accessing belongings, when the seat belt signals are released.
What Is An Example Of A Wizz Air Trolley Bag?
Providing it is within the specified size of 55 x 40 x 23 cm (with a 5 cm margin for handles and wheels), a travel case, small suitcase, compact travel bag or large rucksack are appropriate luggage examples which can be used for a Trolley Bag on Wizz Air flights.
Additional Items
Wizz Air permits a number of specific extra items which can be taken onboard:
- A duty-free shopping bag is permitted in addition to your Cabin Baggage Allowance.
- Crutches are permitted for disabled travellers.
- Blankets.
- A jacket or coat.
Wizz Air Cabin Baggage Fees
Wizz Air will enforce extra fees if you bring Cabin Baggage to the departure gate which do not meet their guidelines:
- Oversized Carry-on Bag: Exceeding 40 x 30 x 20 cm.
- Oversized Trolley Bag: Exceeding 55 x 40 x 23 cm.
- Non-purchased Trolley Bags: Brought to the gate without booking or the appropriate ticket status.
Consequences: Wizz Air reserves the right to carry any non-compliant Cabin Baggage as Checked Luggage if required. The carriage of non-compliant Cabin Baggage will also be subject to the payment of excess fees.
Wizz Air’s Excess Fees are calculated using a number of variables including airport location, booking type and a complex seasonality method. You may also be required to pay an additional fee to Wizz Air’s handling agent.
How Strict Are Wizz Air’s Baggage Rules?
A Word On Wizz Air’s Strictness
Wizz Air is known for a no-nonsense approach in enforcing its Cabin Baggage sizing policy. All luggage is subject to checks before boarding, though enforcement may vary depending on the airport and seasonality.
How To Measure Your Cabin Baggage
To avoid unreasonable fees and disruption to your journey, here are some practical methods to ensure your Carry-on or Trolley Bag meets Wizz Air’s requirements:
Use Wizz Air’s Self-Service Baggage Gauges
Available at most airports, situated close to the check-in desks or boarding gates. These official size gauges are the most accurate way to verify your Cabin Baggage compliance with Wizz AIr’s guidelines.
Individual gauges are available for testing both Carry-on Bags and Trolley Bags.
How It Works:
- Place your bag into the relevant gauge slot for either Carry-on or Trolley Bags.
- If it fits without forcing, your bag is good to go.
- If it doesn't fit, consider checking your bag into the hold.
Digital Measurement Applications
For extra precaution, consider verifying your Cabin Baggage dimensions well before you head to the airport by using a smartphone bag measurement app such as:
- Kayak
How To Use:
- Download the application from the Apple Store or Google Play Store.
- Open the application on your device.
- Scroll down and select: “Measure your bag”.
- Read the instruction steps provided.
- Position your bag in a clear, well-lit location and select: “Get Started”.
- Point the camera at your bag from a short distance.
- Press and hold the button to start scanning your bag.
- Ensure you capture the top and sides of the bag.
- Wait for the app to calculate your dimensions.
- Cross-reference your bag size with the Wizz Air dimensions.
Note: While these apps can give you a rough estimate, they aren’t as precise as physical measurements or Wizz Air's official baggage gauge. Use them as an indicator, not a definitive answer.
Taking Liquids Onboard
You can bring liquids, gels and aerosols in your Cabin Baggage. But there are specific restrictions on how many, the container volume and how these items must be presented when going through airport security. Here's what you should be aware of:
What is Defined as a 'Liquid'?
Liquids include a wide range of items, such as:
- All drinks, including water.
- Liquid or semi-liquid foods, like soup, jam, honey, and syrups.
- Cosmetics and toiletries, such as creams, lotions, oils, perfumes, mascara, and lip gloss.
- Sprays, including shaving foam, hairspray, and spray deodorants.
- Pastes, such as toothpaste.
- Gels, including hair and shower gel.
- Contact lens solution.
- Other items with a similar liquid or semi-liquid consistency.
What Size Container Do My Liquids Need To Be In?
Each individual liquid container must hold 100ml or less.
Larger containers, even if partially filled, are not permitted through security.
How Much Liquid Can I Bring In Total?
Each passenger is allowed to carry a maximum liquid volume of 1,000ml (1 litre) through security, in individual containers of up to 100 ml.
How To Pack My Liquids?
- All liquid containers must fit into a single transparent, resealable bag no larger than 20cm x 20cm.
- The bag must be easily sealed and presented separately during security checks.
- Passengers are limited to One liquid bag per person.
Can I Purchase Liquids In The Departure Lounge?
Yes, additional liquids can be purchased after passing through security. Items bought in the departure lounge are not subject to the same restrictions.
Are Any Liquid Containers Allowed To Be More Than 100ml?
Certain liquid containers larger than 100ml are allowed through security under specific conditions:
- Essential medical purposes.
- Special dietary requirements.
- Baby food or baby milk.
By following these guidelines, you can ensure a smooth and hassle-free security check experience.
Restricted Items
If you’re unsure whether a particular item is allowed on board, Wizz Air provides a detailed breakdown of prohibited and restricted items in their Help Centre.
Special Baggage - Musical Instruments & Sports Equipment
Need to Bring a Musical Instrument on Wizz Air?
If you're planning to travel with a flute, clarinet, or any other valuable instrument, Wizz Air offers two options to help you bring it onboard:
- Option 1: Use Wizz Priority
With Wizz Priority, your Musical Instrument can replace your Trolley Bag allocation.
However, this means it isn’t an additional item - you can bring it only if it meets the Trolley Bag size and weight requirements and can be stored in the overhead compartment.
- Option 2: Book an Extra Seat
For instruments larger than the Trolley Bag allowance (or those that cannot be checked in), you can carry it onboard by booking an additional seat.
To do this online, simply enter "EXST" as the First Name and the passenger's Surname as the Last Name when purchasing the extra ticket.
Remember, the instrument must be placed in a window seat for proper storage and safety.
Transporting Equipment for Sporting Activity
Wizz Air does not provide specific information regarding sports equipment as part of the Cabin Baggage Allowance.
However, if your equipment fits within the dimensions and weight of a Carry-on Bag or Trolley Bag, you may be able to bring it onboard by prioritising that option.
Unlike musical instruments, there is no option to purchase an additional seat for sports equipment. If needed, you can enquire about this through Wizz Air’s Live Chat Service or Call Centre.
For larger items, Wizz Air allows passengers to transport One set or piece of Sports Equipment for an additional fee as a Special Checked-in service.
The equipment must not exceed the following dimensions and weight:
- Maximum Size: 149 x 119 x 171 cm
- Maximum Weight: 32 kg
It’s important to book the transport of sports equipment early, as space is limited. You can find more details about approved sports items on the Wizz Air Special Baggage Information page.
Fees for sports equipment range between €0.00 and €65.00 per flight, per passenger, and per bag, depending on the route and booking conditions.

Creative Traveller Tip (Use at Your Own Risk)
If your Cabin Baggage Allowance only includes the free Carry-on Bag, bringing an additional item like the London Sling Bag could technically incur excess fees.
However, here are a few thoughtful ideas to avoid detection:
Conceal the Sling Bag
The London Sling Bag is slim in profile and can discreetly sit under a hoodie or layer. When worn this way, it’s often unnoticed by airline staff.
Use Wizz Air Small Print
Wizz Air's Cabin Baggage policy allows travellers to bring one standard bag of goods purchased at the airport. To comply with this rule:
- Place the London Sling Bag within a duty-free carrier bag from a departure lounge store.
- Bring it onboard as if it were a purchase.
Disclaimer: These tips are suggested for informational purposes only. Always double-check the latest airline policies, as attempting to bypass guidelines may carry risks, including fees.
Wizz Air 2025
Checked-in Baggage
Wizz Air’s Checked-in Baggage options are available for extended trips or transporting larger, clunkier items.
Traveling with a group or planning a long getaway? Familiarising yourself with the Checked-in Baggage guidelines and choices will ensure efficient packing and a hassle-free airport experience.
Wizz Air Checked-In Baggage – Explained
Wizz Air refers to hold luggage as: Checked-in Baggage.
This includes items you hand over at the airline’s bag-drop counter upon arriving at the airport, prior to clearing security.
The baggage remains inaccessible during the flight and can be retrieved from the luggage carousel after passing through customs at your destination.
Checked-in Baggage - Allowance
Wizz Air passengers are allowed to purchase up to a maximum of Six pieces of Checked-in Baggage.
However, there are very specific and rigid conditions which can impact the overall price.
- Whilst a total of Six can be purchased, only a maximum of Three can be booked online (or via the Wizz Air Call Centre).
- If additional Checked-in Baggage is required, you can purchase up to Three more, but only at the airport (where the fees will be higher).
- All Checked-in Baggage (up to Six per passenger), must be booked as the same type (Weight category).
- For Example: x6 20 kg Checked-in Bags. You can’t Mix & Match.
- There is one exception: The 10 kg Checked-in Bag - limited to One per passenger.
- In addition, each child is allowed to have One pushchair or foldable baby stroller Checked-in at no extra cost.
To avoid any confusion, it is advised to plan ahead if you require Checked-in Baggage, to maximise capacity.
Once you establish how much you will need to pack, consider the WIZZ GO or WIZZ PLUS Fare Bundles which include fixed Checked-in options, at the best price.
Checked-In Baggage Weight Allowance
Wizz Air offers Four Checked-in Baggage weight categories:
- 10 kg Checked-in Bag
- 20 kg Checked-in Bag
- 26 kg Checked-in Bag
- 32 kg Checked-in Bag
Wizz Air passengers may purchase up to Six Checked-in Bags.
However, they must ALL be booked in the same weight category, with the exception of One 10 kg Checked-in Bag.
Please Note: Up to Three of the maximum Six Checked-in Bags can be booked online (or through the Wizz Air call centre), whilst the additional allowance must be purchased at the airport, in the same weight category as the others.
Do Wizz Air Offer Pooling Weight Allowance?
Whilst Wizz Air do offer Group Bookings which give discounted rates on the price of flight tickets, they do not permit passengers to pool or share their Checked-in Baggage allowances.
Each passenger's baggage allowance is individual and cannot be combined with others.
Checked-in Baggage Costs
The cost of Checked-in Baggage with Wizz Air is quite complicated to predict as there are a lot of conditions and services incurring extra fees.
The costs are also quite ambiguous, often presented as a broad price range, varying based on quantity, weight class, route, season and when you make your booking.
General Rules
- Passengers can Check-in up to Six bags total.
- Three bags online or via the Call Centre.
- Three additional bags at the airport (same weight category as booked online).
- Exception: One 10 kg bag is allowed as a separate booking.

The above dimensions exclude bag handles and wheels, but may not increase the bag's size by more than 5 cm.
